ARTISANAL MARKET JAPAN
-JAPAN CRAFTS TO THE WORLD-
In the mid-Edo period, Tsubame City in central Niigata Prefecture flourished thanks to the rich copper mined from the sacred Mount Yahiko. From this copper, artisans developed the craft of “Tsuiki Doki”—a traditional hammer-raising technique. Using only a hammer and anvil, they would beat and compress a single sheet of metal into everyday objects such as pots, kettles, and water boilers.
For over 200 years, the people of Tsubame have passed down this skill, continually shaping products that suit each new era.

Copperware for Everyday Life—In Harmony with the History of Tea, Matcha
As a tea caddy. As a sauce pot. As a glass for Japanese Sake. Even as a display.

Copper has long been valued for its antibacterial properties, which help preserve the freshness of tea leaves. In Japan, copper kettles, tea canisters, and scoops have been used for centuries to enrich the ritual of tea.
The copper vessels of Tsuiki Doki bring this tradition into the present day. Palm-sized and charmingly egg-shaped, they can be used in many delightful ways—transferring tea leaves or matcha from a canister (as chaka, a tea viewing dish), or serving as a small pot for Matcha. They are versatile companions to brighten your tea time and daily rituals.

Tsuiki Doki continues this proud heritage.
Each piece is created from a single copper sheet, 9 cm in diameter, without molds and with only the most minimal heat treatment. Every strike of the hammer brings out subtle differences—even from sheets of the same size and thickness—resulting in a vessel with its own distinct personality. This is the beauty of hand-work without molds.
You enjoy the feeling like it was made to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Specifications
Tsuikin Ran Egg-Shaped Copper Vessel
Material: Copper plate with tin plating
Size: Approx. 8 cm (length) × 7 cm (width) × 2.5 cm (height)
(sizes vary slightly as each piece is handmade)
Capacity: Max. ~50 ml
Suggested uses: As a tea caddy, or for serving sauces, jams, sake, or as a container for small treasures
Note: Small surface marks may occur naturally during production.
Care Instructions
Wash once before first use.
After use, wash with mild detergent and a soft sponge.
Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth before storing.
Do not pour boiling water directly, freeze, or use over open flame.
Over time, the surface will gradually oxidize and darken. This natural patina is harmless and can be enjoyed as part of the vessel’s aging beauty.

About the Artist – Ms. Chiemi Watabe (Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture)
Captivated by the beauty of everyday copperware born from a single hammered sheet, Chiemi began her creative journey. She works exclusively with 9 cm copper plates, shaping them into intimate vessels.
“The character ‘Ran’ comes from the word ‘danran’—the warmth of gathering and togetherness. I hope that my small handmade vessels can bring a sense of comfort and harmony into your daily life.”
